When’s the Best Time to Go?
Fortunately, this trail never gets too crowded, so you don’t have to plan your visit around the busy season. While the campground can get full during the summer, Angel Falls Trailhead always seems like it’s just off the beaten path.
As far as the best time of year, we recommend either spring or fall so it’s not too hot and muggy during your trip. The winter can get pretty cold, and as with other waterfalls in the region, the trail can get slick and icy when the temperature drops too far.
Early morning is a magical time to hike the trail because you can often see fog rolling in through the trees. Seeing both Panther Falls and Angel Falls in such a serene setting makes the entire trip worthwhile, even if you may be tired in the early hours of the day. Early evening is also a good time to go, but you may not want to get stuck on the trail after dark, so we recommend doing this during the summer so you’ll have plenty of time to get back before the sun goes down.

Other Considerations About Angel Falls Trail
Angel Falls trail is a moderate hike, so it’s good for kids and dogs. If you do bring dogs, just make sure to have them on a leash and pick up after them if they do their business along the way. The entire hike is beautiful, and you’ll come across different sights that may make you want to stop and take photos or just pause and drink it all in.
The trail has some stairs, bridges, and viewing areas. You can’t get into the water, but Lake Rabun should be able to take care of all of your water activity needs, so that shouldn’t be a problem.
If you’re staying at Lake Rabun Campground, the trailhead runs right by the site, so it’s extra convenient for you. Plus, you can shave about a half-mile off your hike if you can just return to your campsite when you’re finished.
This trail has two waterfalls, so you get double the visual pleasure without having to hike anywhere else. That said, there are many other picturesque waterfalls in the area, so feel free to explore them during your camping trip.
The best way to experience Angel Falls is to stay at Lake Rabun Campground. If you’re just visiting for the day, you can finish the entire experience in about an hour and a half. If you’re hiking with small children, it could take as much as two hours or so to complete. The campground does close for the winter, though, so if you’re visiting the falls during the cold season, you won’t be able to stay on-site.
Overall, Angel Falls is an excellent hike to complete, whether you’re a seasoned explorer or a newbie. With so many other fantastic hiking trails in the area, you can see everything that North Georgia has to offer. Plus, Lake Rabun has tons to do, so you’re never too far from fun!
