When’s the Best Time to Go?

Toccoa Falls is one of Georgia’s most beautiful waterfalls and a must-visit for any nature lover visiting the area. Located in the Chattahoochee National Forest, this gorgeous waterfall is just an hour-and-a-half drive from Atlanta and is situated on the campus of Toccoa Falls College.

At 186 feet, Toccoa Falls is one of the tallest free-falling waterfalls in the southeast. The water cascades down a rocky cliff, creating a setting that is perfect for photography.

Spring is the best time to visit Toccoa Falls, as the water flow is at its highest, making for a truly spectacular display. The autumn months are also a great time as the leaves change colors and create a stunning contrast against the white water of the falls. Check the weather beforehand if you’re visiting in the winter because the trail may have some ice on it.

Other Considerations About Toccoa Falls

Moreso a walking path than an actual hike, the Toccoa Falls Trail is a short, 0.4-mile out-and-back trip that will lead you through the Gates College Building, where you’re required a small fee per person, then onto the falls.

The walk on the trail has a gentle incline (5% or less) and is quite easy. You can take a break at one of the many benches and picnic tables along the route, and the visitor center is wheelchair-accessible for any disabled or elderly visitors.

Be sure to make sure the trail is open before visiting. The visitor center can periodically be reserved for large events and sometimes the trail is closed in the colder months of the year (December – February).

Leashed dogs are welcome, but guests must clean up after them. Please also practice “Leave No Trace” principles while in the area and leave it how you found it.
