North Georgia is home to some of the most stunning waterfalls in the United States and there are a few just a quick drive from Blairsville. From the cascading Helton Creek Falls and DeSoto Falls to the picturesque Trahlyta Falls, there are plenty of waterfalls near Blairsville to explore.

Helton Creek Falls
If you are looking for a beautiful waterfall in Blairsville, Helton Creek Falls is the most well-known. The trail to the falls is a short and easy 0.3-mile hike that follows Helton Creek to two stunning waterfalls.
As you make your way down the trail, you will be surrounded by the lush greenery of the forest and the soothing sound of the creek. The lower falls drop over a 30-foot ledge, tumbling into a pool below. The upper falls are a bit smaller but equally as beautiful.
One of the best things about Helton Creek Falls is that it is completely free to visit, including free parking. The falls are always open, so you can plan your visit at any time of the year.
It’s important to note that swimming is not allowed at Helton Creek Falls, but you can still enjoy the view from the viewing deck or take a dip in the creek downstream. The trail is well-maintained and easy to navigate, making it a great option for families with children or those who prefer a more leisurely hike.

Trahlyta Falls
Trahlyta Falls is a beautiful waterfall located in Vogel State Park, just a few miles south of Blairsville. The waterfall is a stepping-stone waterfall that falls 40 feet and is surrounded by greenery. The trail to the waterfall is a one-mile loop trail that is short and steep but very much worth the effort.
When visiting Trahlyta Falls, be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. The trail can be slippery in places, particularly when you’re right next to the falls, so it’s important to watch your step.
There is a $5 fee to park at Vogel State Park, but the falls alone are worth the admission. The park offers plenty of opportunities for other fun as well. There are picnic areas, a lake for fishing and boating, and other hiking trails, making it a great destination for a day trip or weekend getaway.

DeSoto Falls
Last but not least, DeSoto Falls is a stunning waterfall located within the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest about 25 minutes south of Blairsville and it is definitely worth a visit.
The DeSoto Falls Recreation Area is located just inside the National Forest boundary off Highway 129. The area offers a campground for those who want to stay overnight and easy access to the falls for a day trip.
There are two waterfalls along the 1.5-mile DeSoto Falls Trail. The lower falls cascade about 20 feet, while the upper falls drop an impressive 80 feet. Both waterfalls can be accessed by a maintained trail leading from the day use parking lot. We highly recommend hiking to view these waterfalls and taking in the beautiful scenery along the way.
The green-blazed DeSoto Falls Trail follows the creek upstream to the larger of the two waterfalls, hiking through vibrant green vegetation on the stream’s banks. Water flow over either falls is heaviest in the spring, especially after a rainstorm. This, combined with some wildflowers and lots of rhododendron, makes this a good hike from mid-April to late May.
Other Waterfalls in North Georgia
While Blairsville has some of the most stunning waterfalls in North Georgia, there are plenty of other waterfalls in the area that are worth exploring. Here are a few of our favorites:
- Anna Ruby Falls: Located near Helen, Georgia, Anna Ruby Falls is a beautiful double waterfall that drops a total of 153 feet. The hike to the falls is relatively easy, and there are plenty of benches along the way for those who need to rest.
- Raven Cliff Falls: This 40-foot waterfall is located in the Chattahoochee National Forest near Helen, Georgia. The hike to the falls is a bit more challenging, but the views along the way are well worth the effort.
- Tallulah Gorge State Park: While not technically a waterfall, Tallulah Gorge State Park is home to several stunning waterfalls, including Hurricane Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. The park also offers some of the best hiking trails in the area.
- Amicalola Falls: Located near Dawsonville, Georgia, Amicalola Falls State Park is home to the tallest waterfall in the state. The falls drop a total of 729 feet and are easily accessible via a series of staircases.
