Middle Creek Campground
About six miles off interstate 81 is a rural campground by Fork Mountain with the Blue Ridge Mountains surrounding the area. The drive from the highway to Middle Creek Campground is like driving back in time. Nature is unspoiled and breathtaking at any time of the year.

What’s Close By
If you want to get out and stretch your legs, this is a great campground to make a home base. To the northwest is George Washington & Jefferson National Forest. Want to keep close? There are six major hiking trails in the short vicinity of Middle Creek. Grab a bite before you head back to the campgrounds. All the restaurants are off highway 81. You’ll want to set aside time to go inside. These are typically dine-in and country eating.

It’s possible, if not likely, that reception will be spotty. You might want to check with your phone carrier to see if this is a covered area. Also, depending on what you’re driving, the country road to the campground can be intimidating. These rural roads can be tight and would take expertise for a larger RV.

There’s a lot to do here that is only a short walk away. To start with, across the street is the Peaks of Otter Lake and Recreation Area. That’s enough to keep you relaxed for days. Just outside of camp are three hiking trails leading to each of the Peaks of Otter, the closest one being Sharp Top Mountain Trailhead.
For a more interesting activity, Johnson Farm was restored to its mid-19th-century origins. Without having to drive anywhere, you can dine at Peaks of Otter Lake View Restaurant. Otherwise, the closest food options are south in Bedford.

This campground does not have water, electricity, or hook-ups. Generators are not allowed from 9 pm through 8 am. Any food or trash must be tightly disposed of because the neighbors are nosey bears. Many of the sites only allow one vehicle and one tent.
